Solutions to plantations on high slopes

The project involves the field-level evaluation of the system under different soils and topography conditions of an avocado orchard, planted on hillsides with very steep slopes.

The proposed system, consists of a line of PVC pipes, which are arranged in the direction of the steepest slope. The PVC strips of 6 mt long have an opening which allow access of avocados into a cylindrical container. This container provided avocado slides into the pipe until it reaches the bin ( 400Kg container ) located in the lower part of land and after they are transported to packing.

This system which has previously been evaluated under a particular soil condition and management ( thesis Faculty of Agronomy U. de Chile 2009) has resulted to be more efficient compared with the traditional harvest system and has significantly reduced occupational accidents such as falling of staff in charge of the harvest, because people move on the contour (zero slope).

OUR SYSTEM

The system is innovative, because there is nothing like it national or international level. The system has been patented in our country. (Chile)

The traditional avocado harvest is through tractors and trailers, for which the farmers must build roads at intervals of 40-50 m are used.
